Why You Should be a Circle Surrogate
Helping intended parents fulfill their dream of becoming a family is a tremendous gift. To ensure a smooth surrogacy, it’s important to have an agency that understands the intricacies of the process.
Circle’s Founder John Weltman is a parent to two sons via surrogacy with his husband Cliff Atkins. Additionally, he is an expert in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology law. Over the last 20 years, he and the Circle team have developed a number of qualities that set Circle apart from other agencies.
Circle Surrogates say it best:
“The experience I had with Circle and their staff was amazing! I felt cared for the entire time and valued beyond measure. They took into consideration all my opinions on the journey I was on with my Intended Parents. Any time I had a question there was someone ready and available to talk with me. I am returning for a second time without hesitation. If you are looking for a great agency to represent you, they are amazing.” – Emilee T.
You may be asking, “How does Circle provide such wonderful care to surrogates?”
#1. We encourage a relationship between surrogates and intended parent(s).
With a cultivated relationship, surrogates have an opportunity to get to know the wonderful people to whom they are giving such an amazing gift. Many surrogates and intended parents feel like family by the end of the process. We believe fostering this relationship is the best way to bring a baby into the world.
#2. One-on-one time before you fill out the application.
Becoming a surrogate is an important decision. Doing preliminary research is a great start. Before surrogates fill out the application, they can private message us on Facebook to ask specific questions. Surrogates may also connect with former surrogates who now work with us as surrogate outreach coordinators. This is a good opportunity to ask questions about the application and the process.
#3. Our two-way matching process requires both the surrogate’s and intended parents’ input.
Finding the right match is a nuanced process that requires experience and dedicated resources. At Circle, our matching team makes sure matches are ideal from a legal standpoint as well as a personality standpoint. Once a match has been proposed, profiles are sent to both the surrogate and intended parents, with the identifying information removed. For the match to move forward, both parties must agree. Then a Skype call is arranged for everyone to get to know each other and see if the match is a good fit. We want intended parents and surrogates to go into the process feeling positive, which is why we take the time to secure the right match.
#4. Circle Surrogates receive a full support team.
Clinical One-on-One Support: In addition to a program coordination team, surrogates are assigned to a social worker, who will reach out monthly. Additionally, their assigned social worker is available as needed in case something comes up. And, follow-up continues for two months after delivery.
Our Private Facebook Group: This active online group provides a private place for surrogates to connect with current and former surrogates. Our social work team monitors the group to make sure individuals are being respectful but social workers do not participate in the forum. Surrogates feel this is a private and safe space to express feelings, experiences, garner support as well as offer support to others.
#5. We have over 20 years of experience.
Circle was one of the first agencies—opening up in 1995 to help create families through surrogacy and egg donation. That experience has allowed us to continually perfect our program in order to provide more options and services to our surrogates as well as intended parents. Our program coordination team and our social worker team come up with new ideas to better serve our surrogates regularly.
#6. Circle Surrogacy is a full-service agency.
One of the biggest benefits of being a full-service agency is access. Legal questions, accounting questions, or medical questions may come up throughout a journey—and our experienced team is able to respond promptly and accurately.
#7. We have more employees than any other agency and one of the lowest ratios of employees per birth.
We need a team of almost 50 people to provide superior attentive service for both surrogates and intended parents. While we do have many employees, we have a very close-knit team. Moreover, we have one employee for every four babies born through Circle Surrogacy, which is very low compared with most surrogacy agencies.
#8. Surrogates are always part of the Circle family.
There are many ways to stay connected to Circle after the birth. In addition to a relationship with the intended parents, many surrogates stay connected through our private and public Facebook groups. Surrogates can also participate in projects for our Circle blog where we write articles giving surrogates advice, tips and even feature surrogate profiles. Surrogate profiles give women an opportunity to share their individual journey. (Read a surrogate profile.)
Also, Circle offers the most compensation for referrals of any other agency. Surrogates can continue to help families by referring women within their network to join the Circle Surrogacy program. As a reward, surrogates receive $2,000 per referral and it goes up from there. Read more about our referral program here.)
